Semester fee
The semester fee at the University of Magdeburg is €329.30. This amount consists of:
- €90.00 for Studentenwerk Magdeburg
- €226.80 for Deutschlandsemesterticket
- €12.50 for Students‘ Council of the University of Magdeburg (Studierendenrat)
Refund of the semester fee
In certain cases, a refund of the semester fee is possible. The amount that may be refunded to you depends on the date of your disenrollment from the university. Please note the following refund options and deadlines.
The Students’ Office of the university will refund the semester fee to the account from which the payment was originally made.
Refund of the semester fee after re-registration
Disenrollment until March 25/ September 24 - Full refund of the semester fee
To receive a full refund of the semester fee, the request for disenrollment must be submitted online via the myOVGU portal by the following deadlines:
- until March 15 in case of re-registration for summer semester.
- until September 15 in case of re-registration for winter semester.
Once these deadlines have passed, timely disenrollment from the university can only be guaranteed if you visit the Students’ Office of University of Magdeburg or the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Medicine during their office hours. Even in this case, you must first submit your request for disenrollment via the myOVGU portal. Please note the following deadlines:
- until March 25 in case of re-registration for summer semester.
- until September 24 in case of re-registration for winter semester.
Please make an appointment well in advance.
Disenrollment after March 25/ September 24 - Partial refund of the semester fee
Refund of the fee for the Deutschlandsemesterticket is no longer possible if you disenroll from the university on or after March 26/ September 25. Please activate your Deutschlandsemesterticket before submitting your request for disenrollment.
To receive a refund of the fee for the Studentenwerk Magdeburg and the fee for the Students’ Council, the request for disenrollment must be submitted online via the myOVGU portal until March 31/ September 30 at the latest.
Please note: Students who have passed their final exam before the semester change may apply online via the myOVGU portal to disenroll for March 31/ September 30 in order to receive a partial refund of their semester fee, provided they do so by the following deadlines:
- until April 15 for disenrollment until the end of a winter semester.
- until October 15 for disenrollment until the end of a summer semester.
Once these deadlines have passed, timely disenrollment from the university can only be guaranteed if you visit the Students’ Office of University of Magdeburg or the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Medicine during their office hours. - until April 30 for disenrollment until the end of a winter semester.
- until October 31 for disenrollment until the end of a summer semester.

Refund of the semester fee without re-registration
If you have paid the semester fee or a part of it but you have not been re-registered, the sum will automatically be refunded to the account it was initially paid from. Fees resulting from a reversed direct debit will not be refunded.
Refund of the semester fee in case of disenrollment within the semester
Students whose disenrollment date is in the current semester are not entitled to receive a refund of the semester fee for the semester in which they were disenrolled. A prorated refund is also not possible. Please activate your Deutschlandsemesterticket and validate your student ID before submitting your request for disenrollment.
Waiver of enrollment
If you are unable or do not wish to start your studies at the University of Magdeburg, please send us the originally signed application form "Waiver of enrollment" by mail. Submission in person at the Campus Welcome Center is also possible.
To receive a full refund of the semester fee, you must submit the application by the following deadlines:
- by March 20 for enrollment in the summer semester.
- by September 20 for enrollment in the winter semester.
If you submit your application after these dates but by March 31 or September 30, refund of the fee for the Deutschlandsemesterticket is no longer possible. Please activate your Deutschlandsemesterticket before submitting the application.
After March 31/September 30, enrollment can no longer be canceled. Please submit the request for disenrollment via the myOVGU portal.
